About Nell Smirthwaite - Sustainable Growth Consultant

Nell Smirthwaite, Sustainable Growth Consultant, Black and white Photo

My work bridges conventional, profit-driven business models with forward thinking sustainability, helping organisations merge these traditionally conflicting worlds into a single, cohesive strategy.

The driving force behind my research and career has always been clear: How can businesses grow while actively protecting the natural world and our communities?

Finding the answers - and implemeting them - is my core aim.

I collaborate with you to embed sustainable practices that support your business, your team, your community, and the environment. By transitioning from a linear model to one of mutual gain, we create a resilient path toward shared success for both people and planet.

Specialisms

My specialisms include SBTi target setting and net zero strategic planning, carbon reduction support and co-creating innovative ways to build workplaces that genuinely invest in the wellbeing of their staff and local community.

I’m also an accredited Carbon Literacy Facilitator and thoroughly enjoy delivering Carbon Literacy training and workshops to teams and business leaders.

On A More Personal Note

I grew up in St Austell, Cornwall and after a few years living in Bristol and North Devon I settled in Lostwithiel with my husband and two daughters. The sea is my happy place and when I’m not absorbed in tackling a sustainability challenge, I can be found in my garden or at the beach with my lovely dog.

While I’m always grateful for some sunshine, the Cornish girl in me loves nothing more than a wild and windy stomp on the North Coast to truly revitalise the soul!

Quality Assurance

Liability Insurance

I practice using the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard (Corporate Standard | GHG Protocol) which is the global standard for GHG carbon accounting. I use industry standard software (Track Zero) that your business can also access for easy collaboration and transparency. I will produce Inventory Management Plans (IMPs) for additional assurance and traceability, and I am working towards my SBTi practitioners’ certificates.

The SBTi platform provides its own quality assurance systems which are globally regarded as gold standard. In general, I do not send my carbon accounting to an external validator, as I would need to pass this cost on to my clients. In specific circumstances where this may be appropriate, for example for a public body, I would discuss options and ensure external validation is provided if required. If you wish to pay for an external validator that is of course your choice. Before doing so, I would strongly advise that you read through my terms and conditions which outline the parameters of my liability.

I am very happy to discuss this further and answer any questions.
